How to Measure?
How to Measure a Coil Spring Without a Specialized Measuring Tool
You can measure the coil spring yourself, even if you do not have a dedicated measuring ruler.

Step 1: Identify the Coil Spring Type
- First, check if the shock absorber is a coil spring type.
- Make sure the spring is visible (not hidden inside a cushion tube).
Note: Some vehicles have rear-wheel coil springs.

Step 2: Prepare Tools
- Gather a ruler, a flat piece of paper, and scissors.
- The paper should be smooth (no folds or wrinkles).

Step 3: Insert Paper into the Coil Gap
- Place the paper carefully between the gaps of the coil spring.
- Press lightly to mark the effective diameter of the coil.

Step 4: Remove and Measure the Paper
- Remove the paper and use the ruler to measure the width of the marked gap.
- This measurement determines the required cushion buffer size.
Final Step: Select the Correct Spring Series
Method 1: Manual Table Reference
Use the chart below to discover which spring series matches your measured gap:
Series |
Gap Between Spring Diameter |
Spring Thickness |
Spring Diameter |
---|---|---|---|
A |
47 To 50mm |
13mm |
173mm |
B |
38 TO 40mm |
13mm |
160mm |
C |
27 TO 30mm |
10mm |
131mm |
D |
20 TO 23mm |
10mm |
113mm |
E |
12 TO 15mm |
09mm |
112mm |
Example: If your measured gap is 28mm, Series C will be suitable for your vehicle.
